Conduct of Council
Linkage to other Organizations:
The Council will:
- Link to the Diversity Council, the
Critical Difference for Women governance structure and other institutional
groups with a policy focus on
women's issues;
- Link to other organizations in the
University through cross-pollination of participation.
Vision and operational plan for the Vision:
The Council will:
- Have a mission statement that guides
it work;
- Create an operational plan to achieve
the vision;
- Build working relationships within the daily operational structure
of OSU, including relationships with students, faculty,
and staff as well as stakeholders in diversity.
Advocacy Items of Priority:
The Council
will:
- Meet at least quarterly;
- Synthesize multiple points of view, develop positions from multiple
voices and advocate for those positions;
- Develop an annual action agenda synthesized from issues raised by individuals
at the grassroots level, by university organizations, by the
national Women in Higher Education agenda, and/or by the President and Provost;
- Incorporate additional issues in the course of the year, as needed;
- Organize workgroups around issues
instead of by standing committees;
- Form ongoing subgroups of expertise
around faculty, staff and student issues.
Communication:
The Council will:
- Create and act through a planned
outreach process, including outreach to both university groups
and individuals. A value will be
placed on as much face-to-face outreach as possible, and
the Council will also make full use of technology and other communications
outlets
in the
outreach process;
- Communicate about and
publicize the work of the Council on an ongoing
basis through every avenue available
in order to encourage access and input into the Council's work;
- Develop an information input structure
and place a high priority on gathering input, opinion, data and
research.
Data and research utilized should be the best and most up-to-date available;
- Place a priority on the development
of mechanisms for continual feedback and "dissemination of information",
including but not limited to posting
reports of monthly meetings on the website,
quarterly progress
reports, face-to-face meetings, and On Campus and Lantern articles.
Evaluation and Accountability:
The Council
will:
- Create evaluation processes
to:
- measure the results of efforts
to impact policies upward as measured against both internal
and external
standards;
- measure the progress of the Council
itself; and
- measure
the progress of the work of The Women's
Place overall - this
process may include focus
groups and surveys
on a periodic basis.
- Track the progress of and regularly
report to the university community on: advice given to the President
and Provost
about
- action agenda items proposed
for implementation;
- items chosen for implementation
and the progress of that implementation; and
- the items not
chosen for implementation along
with the reasons for the non-selection.
Staffing and Reporting:
The Council will:
- Develop a regular reporting
relationship to the President and Provost; and
- Be supported by
executive staff of The Women's Place to carry out its work.
